A transformation of the viola so tasteful even classical purists would approve, AJ Nilles & Tom Schneider chart familiar lands with a new eye in “Four Pieces for Viola and Sampler”. AJ Nilles is a member of the Berliner Philharmoniker, classically bent essentially. Tom Schneider throws a curveball, working in more jazz/fusion contexts from the comfort of his sampler, while also playing piano behind him (which comes into play on this album). Together, the duo presents a neat mix of modernity and old-school experimentation.”
